Our Four C's of Diamonds guide can help you decide on the most important factors when shopping for a diamond. The word carat derives from the word carob, a Mediterranean seed, which has an extremely consistent weight for measuring. The greater the carat weight, the rarer, and more valuable the diamond becomes.
Some people want to buy the biggest diamond possible. Is this always the right choice? The larger the diamond, chances are the more inclusions it likely has, and because it's larger, these inclusions are typically even more visible than on a smaller diamond. But most importantly, if the diamond cut isn't proportioned correctly, it won't return the maximum amount of light through the top of the diamond. This illustrates that no matter how large the diamond, its cut and proportions determine how brilliant the diamond really is.
Solitaire settings are great if you have a stunning singular stone that has been passed down through the generations as an heirloom, many choose to display it in a classic Solitaire setting. This setting generally allows for the maximum amount of sparkle by allowing light to pass in through the bottom sections of the ring.
Garnet comes from the Latin word granatus, meaning grain. Garnet is mostly mined in Southeast Asia, Brazil, and Africa. Occurring in every color except blue, the garnet is a versatile stone, appropriate for a multitude of applications and occasions. Amethyst is a member of the quartz family, and ranges in color from light to deep purple.
There are many different metal types that are used to make jewelry, and we've listed some popular metal types below. White Gold is a form of gold with a distinct pale white or cream color; its an alloy of gold and at least one white metal; either nickel, manganese, or palladium, which typically makes up apprx 10% of the alloy.

When I say I will never go anywhere else to get my jewelry, I mean it. The care that the staff shows for me and my family every single time we come in is something you do not see anywhere else. Four class rings ordered from here over the past 20 years and we couldn't be happier with every single one. Josten's has NOTHING on Layne's. Better price, better quality, better people. Layne's is #1 and always will be in our book. Dixie, thank you so much for everything!

As always great service, great people, when they ask what they can help you with, they really want to help, big difference between a locally owned business and a chain store. They care about the Local community.

I'm Thrilled with Layne's Custom Design I had been casually browsing for a new wedding ring set for quite a while but I never found exactly what I was looking for until I saw a picture online of an art deco style antique ring and knew I was getting close. As I started to form a picture in my mind of "my" ring I knew I would never find it in a jewelry store window and the obvious solution would be a custom design, but I had never gone through that process before, so I was a little intimidated by the thought.

After meeting with three very reputable jewelers in the area I chose Layne's and I am so glad I did! Working with designer Stuart Landry was great! He nailed the design with the first rendering, but then I decided I wanted the setting to be larger. The first stone I looked at was beautiful, but it was a little too blue. One of my concerns about going with a custom design was that my descriptions of what I wanted wouldn't be able to accurately describe the image I had in my mind. But, every time I looked at a stone or an artist's rendering or a 3-D printout and felt like it wasn't quite "it" or I changed my mind about something, Alex and Dixie would reassure me that it was My ring we were all working toward and little changes along the way were a normal part of the process and their goal was to get it right!

I received regular updates from Alex even when there wasn't much to report as he sought out the perfect blue-green stone I pictured. He found it and with that, Stuart rendered the perfect setting and they got to work on the actual ring. The result is beautiful, and it is just what I had been dreaming of. The design team made the experience very pleasant and fun. I cannot say enough about how happy I am that we chose Layne's and how thrilled we are with the results.
