In the late 1880s, Yogo City was like a ghost town. The 100's of people who had come to the town searching for gold had deserted it.
At Rogers Jewelry-Home of the Yogo Sapphire-we're pleased to be the oldest jewelry store in Lewistown, Montana. Dr. Edouard Sutter, an optometrist, arrived in Lewistown in 1904 and opened a shop providing eyeglasses, watches, clocks, jewelry, cut glass, painted china, and silverware. A several years later an uncle, Julian, and a son, Clade, joined him and the store was named Sutter Brothers.
Wally served the community for many years with integrity and a reputation for quality jewelry and individual service. In 1963, Wally's son Jay joined the business after graduating from college. At that time, a 2nd store was set up at West Park Plaza.
Scott Wickam grew up in the jewelry business and continues to have a great passion for it. He graduated from the Gemological Institute of America in 1987 and instructed jewelry design and fabrication as an employee of GIA for 3 years. He then decided to take on his own retail store.
Each piece of silver jewelry is carefully created by hand at Bear Mountain Silversmiths. This makes them all one of a kind works of art. I do not create cookie cutter silver jewelry. There are times when I will create a series of the same piece for a customer but there will be slight differences in each one. These slight differences are what make the piece unique.
