We are involved in every step of bringing our products to you, including personally hand mining the Yogo sapphires ourselves, cutting/grading the stones, and designing/producing the jewelry we showcase. The Yogo sapphires we sell are hand mined, untreated, and sustainably sourced from our claims in Yogo Gulch, Montana. Yogo is the rarest of all Sapphires. In the late 1880s, Yogo City was like a ghost town. The hundreds of people who had come to the town looking for gold had deserted it. Only a few people remained.

Montana Gem is a 100% family owned and operated business founded by GIA Gemologist Randy Gneiting. Since the early 1900's, the Gneiting family has been involved in Montana mining, including gold mining in the Tabacco Root mountains, copper mining in Butte, followed by nearly 50 years of sapphire mining.

Montana Gem is proud to offer gemstone cutting (faceting) to our customers. All stones are cut by our partners in Thailand who have been securely faceting our stones for over 30 years. Each parcel of stones is hand sorted, photographed, and delivered personally to our cutters. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I was able to find a yogo. My husband bought it for me. It will be my Christmas, birthday, New Year's, Easter, anniversary present for as long as he can milk it. They had a lot of good stuff braids yogos as well.
