The colors in my paintings are bold yet soothing, as in nature, but the treatment is unlike any other artist. Birds and animals are portrayed abstractly, sometimes woven into a colorful play of gem-like colors, florals like poppies, and texture. I strive to depict the beauty of wildlife, yet allow room for your own interpretation rather than offering a photorealistic representation. My abstract paintings are gestural, colorful, textural and fit in a variety of environments to enhance your home or office.

Growing up in Portland, Oregon, Karen was always involved in art. She drew a lot and strung love beads in the 60's and aggravated her mother playing in the wax of burning candles, fashioning miniature sculptures. In high school she was drawn to jewelry making, where she took her childhood interests to a more constructive level and learned about wax model carving and lost wax casting.

I'm discovering that I love to paint your animals. I work from photos that you send me, or if you live in Bend I might be able to help take photos with you. We choose the best photo to work from, agree on the size, and then I work in my unique style to paint your beloved animal. You can see examples of that style under 'Paintings' or 'Portfolio'.
